Edmond OK Dentures
The truth is, getting dentures is a treatment of last resort. Dr. Bender’s first priority is to try to help you save your natural teeth. When that is not possible, you have several options. Removable dentures are one of those options.
While you may not be looking forward to the thought of having all your teeth replaced, the results can be well worth it. A healthy new smile will give you renewed confidence and a fresh outlook on life. Many of our patients also say that it takes years off of their appearance.
There are a number of causes for tooth loss. Gum disease, trauma, or tooth decay can all cause teeth to loosen and fall out. Regardless of the reason, it is important that you replace your teeth. Everyone wants to have teeth and be able to smile. The good news is that here Creative Edge Dentistry, we use only the best, toughest materials and most expert laboratory technicians, so the final result will look so natural that people won’t be able to tell you don’t have your own teeth.
There are several different types of dentures available to you.
Removable complete dentures are the traditional dentures that most of us are familiar with. These are used when all of your teeth are missing or removed.
It’s important to recognize the limitations of removable dentures. While we make them to the tightest fit possible, their stability is limited by the fact that they rest on movable tissue. The uppers are held in place by suction. The lowers simply rest on the ridge, and your tongue and cheeks help hold them in place. They will move around slightly when you chew or talk, but you will get used to this quickly.
They can be firmly anchored in place with dental implants. If this idea appeals to you, please visit our dental implants page to learn more.
Immediate Complete Denture: These dentures are made and inserted the same day your teeth are removed. There are obvious advantages to this type of appliance, the biggest being that you do not have to go for any period of time without teeth. The key drawback to immediate dentures is that they will need to be relined after a few months, because the fit changes rather quickly immediately after extractions. This relining adds to the cost.
Partial dentures are used when you have several teeth missing, but you have some healthy teeth left. The replacement teeth are attached to a removable appliance that attaches to your remaining teeth by a framework. The type of framework can vary. Sometimes crowns are placed on the teeth that will hold the appliance in order to improve the fit.
Overdentures are an alternative to complete dentures. They are anchored to natural teeth that have been left in place, or to metal implants. Overdentures are an excellent choice for many people since they typically do not cause the discomfort that can accompany denture use. For additional information on this alternative, please visit our overdenture page.
